Magento Commerce Hires Forrester Executive Peter Sheldon
The newly independent Magento Commerce has hired Peter Sheldon as head of strategy.
Sheldon was formerly a Research Vice President at Forrester and is no stranger to eCommerce. Prior to his work at Forrester, he worked at eCommerce platform vendor Elastic Path and was a senior business analyst at both JP Morgan and Ford.
This announcement comes on the heels of the Magento 2 release just a few weeks ago. So what do all of these changes mean for Magento customers? Only time will tell, but according to this article from Internet Retailer, Magento has plans to increase marketing with an emphasis on its open-source software that gives retailers a greater degree of control over their site.
As Sheldon said, this new environment provides an “opportunity to disrupt the market.”
Last Minute December Shipping Tips
The record-setting Thanksgiving shopping weekend may be behind us, but for many people there is still a lot of holiday shopping to be done. One way to target these last-minute customers is with shipping options.
This article from Brightpearl has some tips for optimizing shipping for those holiday shoppers that are down to the wire, including offering free shipping.
Free shipping can be a deciding factor for a potential customer who is torn between you and a competing retailer. One way to offer this perk while still meeting profit goals is to only offer free shipping with a minimum order. Not only will this cover the bottom line, but it will also help boost average order values.
If your organization wants to try out free shipping, December 18 is the day to do it. Dubbed “Free Shipping Day,” many retailers use that date as the cut-off for guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve. If you aren’t sure if your company is ready to offer free shipping but want to test the waters, this December 18 may be a good time to give it a go.
