We would like to extend a big Briteskies welcome to Greg Crane, who recently became a full time Magento developer!

Greg originally joined the Briteskies team in August as an intern. Through his hard work and dedication to the job, he was hired on as a full time member of the Briteskies Magento team. For him, the transition from intern to full time was pretty smooth.

For even the most experienced businessperson, starting a new business can be a daunting task. Who better to turn to than a network of entrepreneurs who were once in your position? That is exactly what our leadership team did when they joined the Cleveland chapter of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization over ten years ago.

Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) was founded in 1987 as a space for business owners to learn from one another. The network now spans 46 countries and includes 144 chapters, of which the Cleveland chapter is one of the oldest. The goal of the organization is to “educate, transform, inspire, and offer invaluable resources” to entrepreneurs all over the world.

November 28, 2014 | 2:33 PM

As eCommerce people, it takes a lot to get us to fight the crowds at retail stores on Black Friday. But sometimes there is a deal that just can’t be passed up. Our team divulged what items they are planning to brave the Black Friday crowds for, or which hypothetical offers would lure them out of their turkey coma.

Navarr Barnier: “I need a new Nexus 6.”

November 17, 2014 | 11:59 AM

The Briteskies team was honored to receive a Cool Tech Award from Inside Business this year. We got to pick up our hardware at the Cool Tech Awards event at Pickwick and Frolic on November 11. Katie Conaway, Gian Genovesi, Hannah Gierosky, Michelle Kowalski, and Bill Onion represented Briteskies at the event, where they got to network with fellow cool tech industry members.

The award, which honors the overall most successful tech companies in Northeast Ohio, was given to 25 outstanding companies, with five additional categories highlighting specific organizations. Those categories were Coolest Tech Leader, Coolest App, Coolest Innovation, Coolest Tech Start-Up, and overall Coolest Tech Company. Our friends at Findaway World were the deserving winners of the Coolest Tech Company award. Congratulations!

Crain's Cleveland Business Fast 50 Awards

Our own Bill Onion represented Briteskies at the Crain’s Cleveland Business Fast 50 Awards ceremony on Wednesday, November 5. The event, held at the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum at the Western Reserve Historical Society, honored the 50 fastest growing companies in Northeast Ohio, which includes Briteskies!

For Bill, earning this award is a true reflection on the members of the Briteskies team.

“I think this is good recognition for all of the hard work from all of the people who are involved with our clients. Without Briteskies team members working hard and taking care of our clients, we wouldn’t be where we are today. This award is a public recognition for all of that hard work.”

Greg Crane's Magento Team Internship

Posted by Greg Crane

November 10, 2014 | 10:13 AM

It’s funny how everything works out. I thought I had everything figured out when I graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in May of this year. I thought finding a job would be incredibly easy, but it ended up being a challenge to find an entry level opportunity or a company that was willing to take on a fresh college graduate. I had some talks with a few companies but they did not pan out. The companies only ended up offering IT help desk or similar job opportunities; unfortunately nothing in the area that I wanted. I was starting to get discouraged. It was hard being a college grad and having to go bartend at a restaurant every night. I guess when you’re in school you tend to focus so much on graduation you don’t always put a ton of thought into how hard it can be to find a job, specifically one in development in my case. As a stroke of luck, a friend of my girlfriend mentioned something about this business called Briteskies and how awesome of a company it was. She mentioned this to me and I checked out the Briteskies website. I really liked what I saw, so I applied, and the rest is history.

Women in Technology: Past, Present and Future

Posted by Hannah Gierosky

October 28, 2014 | 10:24 AM

When Lee Jayne started her first programming job, the tech field looked a little different than it does today. The personal computer had not yet made its appearance in the office, IBM System/3 was on its way out, and the playing field for women was vastly different than it is now.

“We didn’t even have maternity leave when I started,” Lee said.

It was 1979 and Lee, now an IBM developer at Briteskies, was entering the workforce after starting a family. She was drawn to the tech field because of the interesting work, good working conditions and fair compensation, among other things.

Another Club 2K event is in the books! This year’s crew enjoyed a fun day of racing at Lake County Speedway. Those in attendance were Mike Berlin, Rosie Biggs, Mark Kucalaba, Nathan Giri, Matt Wolf, Mike Iaconis, Lavi Miksa, and Prathyusha Takkillapati. Club 2K creator Mike Berlin came up with the racing idea for this year’s event.

“I am always looking for something different than what most people would have access to. I try to make them something that will be very memorable and something that they will talk about for months and years in the future. Kind of like mini-bucket list events.”
