How Middleware will simplify the integration process

In any eCommerce environment, there are a lot of different components that need to communicate with each other. Between the POS system, back end ERP, eCommerce platform, and applications, there are a lot of different messages being sent back and forth in various formats. The easiest way to simplify this process, ensuring that all communications go as planned, is to utilize a middleware tool.

Why use Middleware

Middleware is a piece of software that connects disparate computer systems and allows them to talk. So, for example, if an order is placed in Magento in an XML format, but the ERP doesn’t read XML or requires a different format, middleware will translate the XML file into something the ERP can work with. Using middleware facilitates necessary communication in an eCommerce system by simplifying the process and translating when necessary.

Benefits of using MuleSoft EBS

At Briteskies, our middleware of choice is MuleSoft because it is open sourced and easy to use. This Java- and Linux-based software is user-friendly in that you don’t necessarily need to know how to program in order to use it, you can simply drag and drop the necessary data elements using Mule’s Anypoint Studio.

We aren’t the only ones who love this technology, though. MuleSoft EBS is the only vendor to be named a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Integration Platform as a Service (iPaas) and Application Services Governance, and Market Guide for Hybrid integration Platform-Enabling Technologies.

Enterprise Integration Platform as a Service

MuleSoft’s Enterprise Integration Platform as a Service, or iPaas, is primarily the functionality that we at Briteskies use. This typically includes different connectivity protocols and message delivery styles, data and message mapping and transformation, and integration flow development among other things.

For this functionality, Gartner again places MuleSoft in the “Leader” quadrant. The report sites its open-source components and cloud and on-premise integration as highlights of the software.

Application Service Governance

Application Service Governance involves assessing and managing communication between applications. This means that MuleSoft is able to keep track of a connection or communication if it is lost and can notify the appropriate party. Maintaining logs of that information keeps information running smoothly.

The Application Service Governance Magic Quadrant evaluated the “planning, design, implementation, publication, operation, consumption, maintenance, and retirement,” of APIs and services, placing MuleSoft in the “Leader” quadrant.

Additionally, MuleSoft has a track record of credibility and support, which is critical when it comes to Application Service Governance.
