This month’s mantra was “There Can Only be One #1 Priority.” Every day we are faced with distractions, interruptions, emergencies, and a myriad of other things that keep us from accomplishing our goals. That is why it is critical to identify the most important tasks or goals for the day and rank everything else accordingly.
We all have a limited amount of time in our workday, and it can be easy to allow distractions to keep us from accomplishing the most critical task. Each day we should ask ourselves, “If I can only get one thing done today, what should that be? What is the most important thing to do today?”
When one item on the list is the priority, however, other assignments do not get attention. This is “The Power of No,” meaning you have to say no to some things in order to focus on the number one priority. While no one wants to say “no” to a colleague, it is often necessary in order to accomplish the task at hand.
In Matt’s nomination, his coworker highlighted Matt’s ability to not necessarily say no, but instead say “yes, later” to a task that interferes with his top priority. Although he has not been a member of the Briteskies team for very long, Matt has handled the challenge of balancing demanding clients as well as other responsibilities appropriately and professionally, leading him to be chosen as this month’s example of “There Can Only be One #1 Priority.”
