JDE E1 92.pngOracle has announced an updated support timeline for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2, revealing that Extended Premier Support will be offered through at least 2032. This announcement confirms that Oracle is committed to supporting their customers currently running JDE E1.

If you aren’t running 9.2, now is the time to upgrade. Here are a few reasons why upgrading to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 is the best option.

Extended Premier Support

With new support dates, customers can feel confident in upgrading to EnterpriseOne 9.2. Prior to this announcement, JDE users were delaying their decision to upgrade to 9.2 because of what was then a relatively short Premier Support window. According to the most recent announcement:

Premier Support for Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 is available through at least 2032, reinforcing our commitment to customers and product innovation. A stable and predictable long-term support policy enables customers to maximize and expand their existing investments with ample time for future planning. They can gain access to new features and capabilities as updates to their existing 9.2 release without having to upgrade and run the same application on-premises or in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (IaaS). Now that Premier Support is guaranteed through at least  2032, there is no longer any reason to hesitate.

Continuous Delivery

JDE products are moving to a Continuous Delivery program, with customers getting timely product innovations without the cost and potential disruption of a major upgrade. These incremental enhancements are easier to consume and users can choose and control when to add new functionality.

EnterpriseOne 9.2 updates will be delivered two to three times a year. These deliveries will keep your 9.2 environment up to date.

This is It

JDE has traditionally followed a major release schedule of three years after the GA of the previous release. But with this new support plan, JDE has no current plans to release EnterpriseOne 9.3 on that schedule. Because of the enhanced software packaging and delivery processes found in the Continuous Delivery model, JDE is no longer bound to delivering enhancements in major releases.

Of course, if needed, a future major release is on the JD Edwards roadmap. If a large functional or technical change is necessary but can’t be delivered effectively as an enhancement release, there would potentially be a major release for that change. In the meantime, however, JDE is focusing on delivering new enhancements to 9.2.

Follow JD Edwards' Best Practices

As a best practice, JDE recommends that customers maintain their environment and stay current on 9.2 by taking regular enhancement releases. Using this methodology will make software updates routine and predictable if, in the future, a new enhancement or technology update is needed.

Staying current and following JD Edwards' best practices also puts your site in an ideal position should you decide to integrate your back end with a Magento eCommerce site.

Taking the Next Step: Integrating your JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 Environment with Magento

In today’s economy, every company should be selling online and every company should be selling with a robust eCommerce platform that drives revenue and provides an elegant shopping experience. Magento Commerce provides a world-class marketing and selling engine for the online audience and when combined with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne you have a feature-rich order management system.

These two systems provide an outstanding customer experience and an easy-to-manage system for the eCommerce Manager.

Why eCommerce for JDE?

Leveraging eCommerce is more than simply capturing customer orders. A robust eCommerce system delivers a marketing platform that provides the opportunity to exhibit your full product or parts range in an attractive and interactive manner. This allows your customers to navigate effortlessly through your products and it assists them in making a well-informed buying decision. Additionally, eCommerce allows you to proactively market cross- and up-sell items, as well as new items to your customers.

Simply put, eCommerce is best for driving out costs from the ordering process (through automation) and selling more (and more effectively) to customers and prospects through marketing. It is great for prospecting to new customers, and selling and marketing to existing customers.

Why Magento?

When it comes to marketing and selling online, Magento is our recommended platform. Magento is a standalone eCommerce marketing platform, and a leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant. While it’s a powerful tool on its own, it’s made even more powerful when leveraging the order processing capabilities JD Edwards delivers.

Using Magento offers business users a host of benefits right out of the box, including:

  • Full control over product images, descriptions, and attributes
  • Robust SEO capabilities
  • Marketing opportunities, including rule-based cross-sell and up-sell items and customer segmentation
  • A personalized shopping experience based on customer segments and shopping history
  • A fully mobile-optimized site
  • Site optimization for sales and presentation for the customer
  • Line of business tooling intended for business users, not IT

Pairing these capabilities with the power of JD Edwards leads to a solid, dependable, and competitive eCommerce environment.
