Magento Support Updates

magento support updates.jpgThere has been a lot of news coming out of Magento lately, from new software releases and name changes, to releasing new B2B capabilities and being named a B2B leader. But as these new developments are released to help customers grow their eCommerce presence, Magento Commerce 1 customers have voiced concern over being left behind.

Gary Specter, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Customer Success at Magento, recently reached out to Magento partners to address these concerns. As so many current Magento users are leveraging their investment in Magento Commerce 1, Magento has extended the support end date for customers whose support was set to end in 2018.

Many customers continue to see tremendous value and success from their existing Magento investment and want to have more time to plan their upgrade to Magento Commerce 2. In order to meet that demand and ensure that Magento Commerce 1 customers continue to see success, Magento has extended full support for some Magento Commerce 1 versions.

Extended Support for Magento Commerce 1

Full support for Magento Commerce 1.13 and 1.14 will be extended from November 2018 to June 2020. To receive full support through June 2020, customers must renew their license through June 2020 and continue to maintain an active account and in good standing.

Security patches for Magento Commerce 1.12 and prior versions will be continually made available through June 2020 as well. For all other versions of Magento Commerce, Magento has given users access to their product support schedule so that partners and customers have transparency to when support ends for other product versions.

While this news is great for those customers running Magento Commerce 1.13 and 1.14, it should be a wakeup call for those running prior releases. While this extended support schedule is encouraging, Magento is certainly encouraging customers to move to the newer Magento Commerce 2 technologies. If you are currently running a release prior to 1.13, we strongly suggest upgrading to 1.14 or Magento 2.
