When Oracle originally announced an updated support timeline for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2, they revealed that Premier Support would be effective through at least October 2025 and Extended Support through at least October 2028. Since this blog was first posted in 2017, Oracle has announced an extension for support until at least 2032. In their announcement, they stated, "A stable and predictable long-term support policy enables customers to maximize and expand their existing investments with ample time for future planning."
Here are a few reasons why upgrading to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 is the best option.
With new support dates, customers can feel confident in upgrading to EnterpriseOne 9.2 due to the longer Premier Support timeframe. Prior to this announcement, JDE users were delaying their decision to upgrade to EnterpriseOne 9.2 because of what was then a relatively short Premier Support window. Now that Premier Support is guaranteed through at least 2032 for Oracle Applications Unlimited Products, including JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, there is no longer any reason to hesitate.
According to the most recent announcement (April 2021):
Premier Support for Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 is available through at least 2032, reinforcing our commitment to customers and product innovation. A stable and predictable long-term support policy enables customers to maximize and expand their existing investments with ample time for future planning. They can gain access to new features and capabilities as updates to their existing 9.2 release without having to upgrade and run the same application on-premises or in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (IaaS). Oracle JDE products are moving to a Continuous Delivery program, with customers receiving timely product innovations without the cost and potential disruption of a major upgrade. These incremental enhancements are easier to consume and users can choose and control when to add new functionality. EnterpriseOne 9.2 updates will be delivered two to three times a year, keeping your 9.2 environment up to date – including the recently released JD Edwards One Tools Release 9.2 Update 5.
Oracle JD Edwards had traditionally followed a major release schedule of three years after the GA of the previous release. But with this new support plan, JDE has no current plans to release EnterpriseOne 9.3 on that schedule. Because of the enhanced software packaging and delivery processes found in the Continuous Delivery model, JDE is no longer bound to delivering enhancements in major releases.
Of course, if needed, a future major release is on the JD Edwards roadmap. If a large functional or technical change is necessary but can’t be delivered effectively as an enhancement release, there would potentially be a major release for that change. In the meantime, however, JDE is focusing on delivering new enhancements to 9.2.
