upgrade E1 92.jpgOracle recently announced an updated support timeline for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2, revealing that Premier Support is effective through at least October 2025 and Extended Support through at least October 2028. This announcement confirms that Oracle is throwing their weight behind JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 and that it’s the version all E1 users should be operating on.

If you aren’t running 9.2, now is the time to upgrade. Here are a few reasons why upgrading to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 is the best option.

IBM i Operating System Upgrade

If you’re running EnterpriseOne alongside IBM i, you need to upgrade tools to 9.2. Oracle support for EnterpriseOne on IBM i 7.3 became available earlier this year, with support including EnterpriseOne tools 9.2.1.x and 9.2.0.x. So, if you’re running OS 7.3 or are hoping to upgrade to it (what with the end of support coming for 7.1), be sure to upgrade your JDE EnterpriseOne environment as well.

Long-Term Support

With new support dates, customers can feel confident in upgrading to EnterpriseOne 9.2 due to its long Premier Support time. Prior to this announcement, JDE users were delaying their decision to upgrade to 9.2 because of what was then a relatively short Premier Support window. Now that Premier Support is guaranteed through at least October 2025, there is no longer any reason to hesitate.

Continuous Delivery

JDE products are moving to a Continuous Delivery program, with customers getting timely product innovations without the cost and potential disruption of a major upgrade. These incremental enhancements are easier to consume and users can choose and control when to add new functionality.

EnterpriseOne 9.2 updates will be delivered two to three times a year. These deliveries will keep your 9.2 environment up to date.

New Features

EnterpriseOne has seen some new features recently, aimed at enhancing user experience, adding mobile features, and advancing EnterpriseOne Tools.

  • UX One now has new and enhanced role-based content available
  • Mobile additions include barcode scanning and EnterpriseOne Watchlists for mobile
  • Mobile applications have been updated to Oracle Mobile Application Framework 2.3.3

Additionally, the latest EnterpriseOne Tools release, has new features, including improved Personal Forms features and simplified EnterpriseOne Search. Read about more new EnterpriseOne features here.

JDE has traditionally followed a major release schedule of three years after the GA of the previous release. But with this new support plan, JDE has no current plans to release EnterpriseOne 9.3 on that schedule. Because of the enhanced software packaging and delivery processes found in the Continuous Delivery model, JDE is no longer bound to delivering enhancements in major releases.

Of course, if needed, a future major release is on the JD Edwards roadmap. If a large functional or technical change is necessary but can’t be delivered effectively as an enhancement release, there would potentially be a major release for that change. In the meantime, however, JDE is focusing on delivering new enhancements to 9.2.

Follow JD Edwards Best Practice

As a best practice, JDE recommends that customers maintain their environment and stay current on 9.2 by taking regular enhancement releases. Using this methodology will make software updates routine and predictable if, in the future, a new enhancement or technology update is needed.
