As of May 11, the latest versions of Adobe Commerce (formerly Magento Commerce) and Magento Open source are available to the entire Commerce community. These releases focus on security updates and upgrading to PHP 7.4.

In their announcement blog, Magento references the massive increase of digital commerce activity during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, online sales were 44% higher than in 2019, totaling $861.12 billion. As digital commerce continues to grow, the need to keep your eCommerce environment secure and current grows as well. That's where Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source 2.4.2-p1 and 2.3.7 come in.

Both Adobe Commerce 2.4.2-p1 and 2.3.7 bring security updates to customers, while 2.3.7 also adds support for PHP 7.4 and in-product guidance to help merchants take advantage of this growth with confidence.

End of Support for PHP 7.3

PHP 7.3 will reach end of support in December of this year, and Adobe Commerce 2.3.x will reach end of support in April of 2022. The new 2.3.7 release will allow merchants to maintain full support of the 2.3 line until then.

Magento's "strong recommendation" is as follows:

Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source 2.3.x users [should] upgrade directly to the 2.4 line and PHP 7.4 to help maintain PCI compliance and to create the most cost-effective upgrade approach. Support for PHP 7.4 in the 2.3.7 version is intended only to help customers maintain PCI compliance until they can upgrade to version 2.4. Keep this guidance in mind as you discuss your upgrade strategy with your team."

In addition to these updates, there are additional product announcements.
