The leap from World A7.3 to A9.3 fixed assets can be a big one. Over the years and across releases, JD Edwards has added additional functionality, which increases complexity.
In our experience upgrading clients to A9.3, fixed assets is among the modules requiring the most additional setup and configuration during an upgrade. Here are some tips for a smoother upgrade to A9.3 fixed assets.
- Make sure you are on the latest service pack release and that all subsequent updates have been installed. JD Edwards is continually working to solve reported bugs, but most of the major issues have been corrected in the latest update – A9.3.1.1. If you are not on this release, you may have to install a series of patches to get all the latest fixes installed.
- Regularly check the Fixed Asset Troubleshooting tab on the Oracle / JD Edwards Information Center page to help identify additional issues and fixes. Search the Knowledge Base for document ID 1492030.2 to get to the page content.
- Review all the fixed asset setup screens to make sure they are properly configured. Pay particular attention to changes in how A93 uses default category codes, disposal rules, and date patterns. Also review the fixed asset AAIs to make sure that all required AAIs are set up.
- And lastly, as always, test. Take the time to identify and document exceptions to normal processes because it is always the exceptions that get you. Push as many different types of transactions through the system as you can to make sure all the scenarios and ledger types are processing correctly.
