One of the most common misconceptions with IBM i is that it’s impossible to interface with it. People often think that the data is simply locked in there and they can’t integrate with IBM i, much less JD Edwards World. However, we have integrated many sites to IBM i, both alone and with JDE World, and there are a number of ways to access that information.

Software maintenance and support is a critical topic for JD Edwards World customers. Oracle estimates that 46% of World customers are still on A7.3 and A8.1, which is concerning considering that these products fell into Sustaining Support, as opposed to Premier Support, on December 31, 2013.

JD Edwards World software has been around for a very long time and has a loyal and passionate fan base. This software system has served these companies very well and helped support these organizations as they’ve grown over the years. However, as the years pass and the workforce grows older, this system is starting to show its age.

IBM Software Support for OS V5R4 is getting expensive, as is the cost for older versions of Vertex. Given this situation, what are the options? What is a good approach to resolving this issue?
